Biography

Diran is an experienced civil litigator and appellate practitioner with more than 33 years of civil litigation experience. Martindale-Hubbell and his peers have also rated him AV® Preeminent. Diran has handled more than 175 appeals in the five Florida District Courts of Appeal and argued more than ten appeals before the Florida Supreme Court. He is the co-chair of the professional liability and directors and officers practice groups. 

Diran has tried more than twenty civil jury trials in cases involving automobile negligence, premises liability, wrongful death, general liability and professional liability matters, with fee shifting statutes in play. His significant understanding of preservation of error issues and effective appellate practice for review of jury, lawyer and judicial errors which occur in the lower tribunal makes his practice well suited to complex matters. Diran also handles medical malpractice, negligent security, sexual misconduct liability, liquor liability, product liability, trucking and roadway construction litigation.

Early on in his career, Diran handled an appeal from an erroneous county court ruling regarding the applicability of Chapter 766 Pre-Suit Screening to a dental case, and after the misapplication of the law by the Circuit Court sitting in its appellate capacity, sought successful “second tier review” at the Fourth District Court of Appeal. Diran has also practiced before the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, successfully appealing a professional’s disciplinary ruling from the lower tribunal, and most recently defeating a state court litigant’s effort to invoke the discretionary review of the United States Supreme Court.

Diran earned a Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College (1982). He obtained his Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad Law Center, graduating magna cum laude (Class Rank 7th, 1988). While in law school, Diran was a Notes & Comments Editor on Law Review.

Diran is admitted in Florida (1988). He is admitted to the United States District Court for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. Diran is also admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit and to the United States Supreme Court.
